It’s Bogus! It doesn’t work! Blogs with no RSS subscribers are too expensive!

This is all I seem to be hearing about Entrecard lately. Several blogs have even removed the widget entirely. I’m wondering why? From what I’ve read, the only real complaint has been that some blogs or sites appear to be “overvalued”. Low RSS subscribers seem to be the biggest complaint on blogs that are near the top of the price points in any given sector. In response, likely because the complainants have dropped down in price, they have decided to remove the widget until some “fair” system can be worked out.

Well, I say that’s hogwash. The whole point of the system is to offer an opportunity for bloggers to advertise on other blogs without shelling out a bunch of cash. In turn, those blogs have opportunities to advertise on other blogs.

The big complaint seems to be over these people that are clicking 300 or so blogs every day. Yeah, so? So they have 300 credits a day to spend how they please. They are also getting massive exposure to their blog, whether or not that translates directly to traffic is yet to be seen. I’m not as obsessive about it as some. I pretty much visit the same blogs every day. I have about a dozen blogs I read on a daily basis and I try to visit blogs that drop their card on my widget, but I can’t always get to them all.

I also only advertise within my niche. It doesn’t really do any good to advertise on a blog about photography if your blog is about investing. Reaching the broadest audience isn’t always a good thing. Sure, if you are Coca Cola, you want everyone to be drinking your product but if you are Joe Blow who sells army surplus supplies, you have a niche market and you really only want to reach those individuals that are interested in your niche.

So I’m keeping my widget and I will continue marketing the way I have been because it’s working. And as my dear departed grandfather used to say, “don’t fix what ain’t broke”.
