AGLOCO Goes Belly-Up
If you hadn’t heard already, AGLOCO has failed. Apparently, the marketing team behind this experiment has failed to generate the revenue stream they had hoped they would. AGLOCO was an attempt at creating “A Global Community” of web surfers and computer users who would use their viewbar to see (and potentially click on) advertisements, thus generating revenue through exposure a-la Google Adwords/Adsense.
Unfortunately for them, AGLOCO didn’t get the job done.
The site is still up and they are collecting names still but their certificate is no longer valid which means they aren’t actively working on the project/site anymore.
This has been confirmed by John Chow, probably the largest AGLOCO community around.
The fundamental problem I always saw with AGLOCO was thier software. The ads which were just text weren’t relevant to anything I was doing, so I don’t see how they could have expected it to generate any sort of revenue to begin with. I also question their affiliation with Ask.com as the means of search results. My guess is Google passed on the opportunity (and with good reason).
AllAdvantage was the first incarnation of AGLOCO and it also failed mainly because people figured out how to cheat the system with auto clickers and other tools that would keep the user online and using their banner longer than they were actually on their system. I actually stopped promoting AGLOCO after only a couple weeks because it just wasn’t working. So long AGLOCO, we hardly knew ya.
