Giving To Receive

In every single book I have read about millionaires, they all have one thing in common. No, not the money, though that is certainly true. No, they all give a tremendous amount of money and time back to their communities and to charities.

Why do they donate so much money and time? Simply put, you must give if you want to receive.

Bill Gates, the wealthiest man on the planet donated $5 Billion dollars to the William H Gates Foundation in 1999 to help give grants that tackle world health problems.

We should all be so fortunate to be able to donate that kind of money to our favorite charities. Even on my modest earnings I donate to charities throughout the year. I believe that when you give to others selflessly it has a way of coming back to you.

Each month I donate the following:

  • $10 to Peace Action California
  • $10 to Environment California
  • $22 to Children International (I sponsor a Philippine child)
  • $10 to Human Rights Campaign
  • $20 to Habitat for Humanity
  • $20 to Greenpeace

Total Monthly Donations: $92

That means I donate $1104 to charity each year. I feel really good about that and you should too. Helping others less fortunate that you is one of the greatest things you can do with your money.

John F. Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. That statement still holds true and it’s not about nationalism or serving in the military. It’s about what you can do for your fellow man. Give what you can and everything else has a way of taking care of itself.
