According to John Chow, the future of blogging is in video. While I think video can be useful to explain certain things or illustrate points, I don’t think it will replace written word.
First of all, video doesn’t play on all mobile devices, but text does. Second, there are still users out there that don’t have broadband connections and video uses a lot more bandwidth than text.
I also think you can’t video everything. Videos are great for showing something unique like your baby’s first steps or capturing some event that might not ever happen again but for everyday blogging, I just don’t think you can video everything you want to say. You also need to be able to hear and see video and sight impaired people wouldn’t be able to see what you are talking about.
I’m not saying I won’t ever make video blogs, in fact I’m trying to find a decent camera that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg but still has good quality. I’d like to get an HD camera if possible but I don’t want to spend more than a couple hundred dollars for it. Got any suggestions?
