What Does The Average Blogger Drive?
After reading the post by David Pitlyuk, What Do The Top Bloggers Drive? I thought…who really cares?
I mean, the top bloggers are making enough money they can drive whatever the heck they want. When you are making $20k a month, you can afford to drive just about anything. However, most bloggers aren’t making that kind of scratch. Most bloggers will make under $1k this year from their blogging. It’s true. I made around $500.00 last year from this blog. That being said, I still work full time for the 5th largest bank in the world. I’ll let you figure that one out on your own.
So if people like Shoemoney and John Chow can afford to drive whatever they want, and they are pretty modest and drive I would say typically average cars. Heck, even Jeremy Shoemaker’s H2 is pretty ordinary when you think about it because what A-list celebrity hasn’t been seen in one of those? So really, my question is what do you, the average blogger drive?
I’ll tell you what I drive. Nothing. Zip. Nada. I don’t even have a driver’s license!
No way! That’s crazy talk! Everybody drives, right?
Not me. I live in a small enough town that everywhere I need to get to is within 20 minutes of walking distance. I work in San Francisco though and to get there I take one bus, one train and walk 20 minutes to the office. It’s a 2.5 hour one way trip and costs me about $225 a month to commute. That’s $225 tax free because it comes out of my paycheck before taxes due as a commuter benefit plan. Is your gas tax free?
We do have a car however. 2 years ago I bought my wife a new car to replace what she was driving because I got fed up paying to fix it all the time. Geo Metros just aren’t built to last. They are great commuter cars if you don’t drive long distances but over time they just can’t hack it. The 3 cylinder engine was basically a lawnmower. Whenever we brought the car in to the mechanic he would ask if one of the hamsters died! ouch!
So my wife now drives a 2005 Volkswagen GTI which is one of my favorite cars in the world. Not only does it get excellent mileage (around 25 mpg city) but it’s extremely comfortable, came with a Monsoon sound system and has optional manual shifting called Tiptronic which is like sequential shifting in a racecar.
One of these days I’m going to buy a Tesla Roadster. That’s the car you see in my header. The Tesla Roadster is completely electric, goes from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and can travel 250 miles on a single charge. That’s pretty awesome for a green machine! And at around $100k isn’t too bad considering. I’d rather buy that than a hummer any day.
So what do you drive? I’d love to hear what you drive and what you want to drive. I plan on never actually having to drive a car. I will however buy the kind of car I like for my wife to drive
By the way, the Geo pictured isn’t actually our old car but I realized I didn’t have any photos of our old car. Same color, same year in the photo.
