Since everyone is always curious about how much bloggers make, I thought I would add to the discussion. Million Dollar Portfolio has seen many changes over the past year and experienced a fair share of growing pains, but like all businesses it’s to be expected.
Originally this blog started as a response to the Million Dollar Experiment on StevePavlina.com. My goal was to see if I could create a blog and monetize it. It was certainly easier said than done.
For the year ending 2007, this blog made money from the following sources :
- Text-Link-Ads: $46.33
- Google Adsense: $112.85
- Contest Winnings: $400 (ipod touch)
- Clickbank: $16.95
- Clickbooth: $.12
- Linkshare: $0
- Kontera: $4.03
Expenses For the year:
- Hosting: $60
- Advertising: $150 (first foray into affiliate marketing)
So as you can see, a grand total of $580.28 came in and expenses totaled $210.00
This blog isn’t even a year old and working out all the kinks and advertising systems has been a test of patience. I expect 2008 to be much better and I will be removing systems that don’t work so that I can optimize what does work.
So the question remains, can you make money online? Yes, absolutely. Are you going to get rich doing it? Possibly but it takes patience, planning and a lot of good old fashioned elbow grease.
What I didn’t mention above were some of the other business ventures I am involved with that made more money than this blog. Those include my T-shirt business and my other blogs.
I’d like to hear about your experiences with the income systems I mentioned above. Did you have a good year? A great year? Discuss it here.

hi. it’s pretty good for a start! you can try getting paid for blog post. There’s many site ard.
Not bad, you did a heck of lot better than me. I made a grand total of $36 but all I did was slap adsense on some funky blog ideas. I hope to make ALOT more than that this year.
I think it would be great if blogggers gave some idea of the time they spent as well as the money they made.
It’s hard to measure my time spent because I only blog part time and not every day is spent actually writing. I read a lot, especially other blogs. If I had to guess I would say I spend about 20 hours a week on my blogs including marketing and research, so I’m not ready to replace my job quite yet…
