Entrecard Traffic Experiment

Yesterday I was able to reserve an entrecard ad on John Chow’s blog.  The ad will run on the 18th and it will be interesting to see what kind of traffic results from that.

I am hoping at the least to boost my RSS base.  Currently I have about 8 RSS subscribers and I think more than anything else you do with your blog, getting these subscribers is crucial.  Forget PageRank and Alexa.  Forget about all those SEO tricks.  If you don’t have readers, none of that stuff will matter anyway.

When you are advertising using a service like Entrecard, it’s important that the sites you choose to advertise on should be similar to your own.  If you run a blog about money and you advertise on a site about art or cars, you probably aren’t going to get very good traffic as a result because the people reading those other sites aren’t as likely to be interested in what you have to say.  The same goes for using any targeted ad campaign, but especially for Entrecard.

I’ll let you know how the ad running on John Chow’s site does.  He doesn’t place the widget as prominently on his blog as his paying ads, but it is free, so you can’t beat that price.
