This blog is about making money of course, but sometimes we need to take a break from making all that cash and just have some fun.  What better way to have fun than with a Nintendo Wii.  I don’t own one of these myself but my friend does and we have a blast playing with it.  I especially like the golf but that’s because I am a golfer and it feels pretty much like the real thing the way you swing it.  The Nintento Wii is great for family fun.

That being said, Internet entrepreneur Truebluetitan is giving away a Nintendo Wii to a lucky reader just in time for Christmas.  If you haven’t been there yet, check out Truebluetitan.com.

Rob Shultz is the titan behind this blog which follows his journey to become self-employed.  I for one enjoy reading his blog because his blog is clean and to the point.  Blog posts are concise but insightful and it’s cool to see how someone just starting out in the blogging niche grows and excels.

Entering the contest is easy, you can either comment on any one of the posts on his site or you can blog about the contest and site.

I look forward to seeing the site and Rob’s skills grow as an entrepreneur.  While you are there, don’t forget to drop your Entrecard.

I just checked my akismet spam box because I was reading about how to prevent spammers from automatically posting comments and such.  I have had Akismet installed since the beginning of this blog so I always assumed it was catching the true spam.  What I didn’t realize is that in that spam are also trackbacks from content scrapers.

John Chow talked about this a while ago and I had forgotten about it until now.

In case you are wondering, a content scraper is someone whom, without permissions copies in whole or in part your blog posts and puts them on their own blog.  This is worse than just aggregating a feed because feed aggregate is only the link to the original article.  Pulling even part of the article itself and publishing without permission is just stealing.  Even though the link back to my site is there, the ramifications of this should be obvious.

Rankings

First off, duplicate content is a big nono in blogging.  The problem is, search engines can’t tell the difference between the original and the copy, all they know is that the content is the same.  Guess what happens to that content in terms of search results and SEO?  That’s right, it gets thrown into the supplemental pile…in other words, the Google trash bin.

Essentially, Google then ignores those posts entirely and they don’t become part of the normal search returns.

Profits

Now, this may not seem like a big deal but the thing is, assume for a minute those scrapers or content thieves did manage to rank for those articles.  A user first goes to that site…possibly reads some of the article but may not click to the full (and real) article and instead stays on this scraper site.  Then they potentially click some ads or purchase some other product from that site.  Now you can see the problem.  My business is then suffering because of the unauthorized content.

Solution

So how do we solve this?

A simple cease and desist letter to the hosting companies should clear the matter up.  I hope.  Should that not suffice, I will have to pull out the big guns and sic some lawyers on these copyright tramplers.  I’m running a business here, not a charity. Ironically, this article is likely to be scraped and displayed on a few other blogs.  There were at least 3 I found in my spam that were stealing my content.  Nobody steals from me and gets away with it! >:)

My Entrecard experiment is turning out to be quite successful. I think most other bloggers using the tool would agree it has brought extra traffic, some of which I might not have had because of the demographics.

I like the ability of accepting or declining advertisers as well.

All that being said, I wanted to let you know the 468×60 banner spot at the top of every page is available. If you have been wanting to advertise there but don’t have a graphic, you can use google adwords to advertise there by targeting your ads specifically to my site. I can’t tell you how much it would be but I am getting about 40-50 visits a day right now and that figure seems to be rising so i’ll let you figure out that CPM…

If you want to buy the spot outright, you can find out more about my pricing by going to the advertising link listed in the menu.

If you need graphics, I can work with you to develop your ad, just let me know.

Cheers.

We all know that what you say is important but so is how you say it and what you say it with.  When it comes to business cards, first impressions can make or break you.

That being said, Entrecard is the new guy in town and from what I have read around the blogosphere (i really hate that word) people seem to like it.  The problem I have seen is the lack of creativity on the part of bloggers to create a pleasing looking graphic for their widget.

The design of the widget itself is fairly simple, but I think it works for what it is.  So here I am offering up my design skills at a very reasonable price for those of you that don’t have time/don’t want to create your own graphics.

For just $10 I will design you a 125×125 pixel graphic for use in your Entrecard.  No strings attached.  Just email your idea or spec for the design and your blog/website name to billing@wilcox-studios.com and paypal $10 to the same address.  You can see my own button design on entrecard.com under Making Money Online.

There’s a new affiliate program in town and its name is TTZ Media.

John Chow, owner of the now infamous JohnChow.com is the evil genius behind TTZ Media, a product based ad service triggered by keywords.  TTZ Media ads display products based on keywords entered and show where those products can be purchased online.

Win One Of Two 22″ Monitors

22To kick off the new affiliate program where publishers can join the program and display TTZ Media ads on their site, JohnChow.com is holding a contest sponsored by BlueFur Web Hosting. Two 22″ LG Monitors are being given away to two lucky winners.  Entering the contest is easy and there are several ways to do it.

Quoted from JohnChow’s Site:

  • Sign up for TTZ Media. All accepted sites that run TTZ Media ads get one entry. If you are already signed up for TTZ Media and are running the ads, then you can skip this step.
  • Refer other sites to TTZ Media. Every site you refer that are running the ads equals one entry. Plus you get 10% of what they make for 12 months!
  • Making a blog post about this contest and the launch of the TTZ Affiliate Program will get you two entries.
  • Buying this $10 webhosting package from BlueFur will get you five entries.

So that’s it.  Another great contest from JohnChow and another way to monetize your web site or blog using TTZ Media Ads.  Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
