Make Mad Money Tomorrow
Seeing this title, you probably thought I was going to throw another timely affiliate link your way. Well, I’m not going to. Instead I want to talk about what’s going on outside the internet. Far from the place we call the web is a little thing called your garage.
Maybe it’s not your garage, it’s your shed…or your storage unit, or even you living room (like mine). In this magical space is a veritable treasure trove of goodies. “That’s all junk” I can hear you saying. Maybe, but our junk is other people’s treasure. That 1MP digital camera you stopped using a year ago is collecting dust…it’s worth a few bucks. I should know, I sold one today for $5. How about that desk you have piled all your overdue bills on so high you can’t even see the computer that may or may not be under it. That’s worth about $40-$50 easy.
See making money isn’t always about having the right affiliate link or the most readers or how many google adsense clicks you get. It’s about creativity and entrepreneurship. Right now you could be sitting on hundreds of dollars worth of junk that’s collecting dust. We all have it.
It’s that silly toy aunt Edna bought you for Christmas that you just didn’t have the heart to say you hated. It’s those old necklaces and earrings and rings that no longer go with any of the outfits you wear. Those Hawaiian shirts that looked so good in paradise are now moth ridden in the back of your closet.
SELL IT!
Have a good old fashioned yard sale, or garage sale if you have one…or if you are like me, a yard/carport sale.
Rubbish! Oh really? All of my rubbish netted me $400 in just six hours. That’s $66 an hour. When did your job pay you that much on a Saturday? We didn’t even have that much stuff, but we priced it to move.
Sentimentality has no play in a sale like this. If it’s smaller than a breadbox it’s gonna be a quarter or $.50 or maybe $1.00. Electronics fetch a bit more. Furniture sells the best and it goes early. There’s always someone out there looking for a desk or chairs or a table, maybe a couch or even beds. These items are hot and go faster than you can even finish setting up. They go even before you are technically open.
So next time you are feeling strapped for cash, take a look around the house and garage/storage unit and think to yourself, “could I possibly sell all this junk?”. You win in 2 ways. For one you make some money that can be used elsewhere like marketing your new blog or buying a better bed, or maybe you just really want a new iPod. You also clear out some space, get rid of clutter and genuinely feel good about relinquishing some junk.
The kicker though, is when the sale is over…just donate the rest. That glass orb from Grandma has been sitting on a shelf behind some books for over a year and nobody bought it…so just get rid of it. We always donate to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation (UCP) who come and gladly collect donations every year.
So there it is, you can make some money and help out your local charity in one fell swoop. Now don’t you feel better?
