Ok, I lied…There’s one post this week.  Well two if you count my post saying there weren’t going to be any posts this week.

So anyway, tomorrow is halloween and I hope you all have a fun evening planned.  Here’s the way my day is going to go.  First, let me say I had planned on working from home tomorrow to make sure my Halloween setup was going to be perfect. And I always take the day after Halloween off so I can…ahem…recuperate.  No, no it has nothing to do with the quantity of alcohol I consume while giving out goodies to all the neighborhood children…what?

I will be in training for work all week so I won’t be making any updates to the blog during this time.  It’s bad enough I have to get up at 4:30 to make the trek to San Francisco.  Leaving early and getting home late just doesn’t leave time for blogging.

I’ll have updates on all the goings on next Monday.  Have a great week!

In just under a week, the month of October will be in the books and we get ready to cook a big bird to celebrate family and friendships (most of you know this as Thanksgiving). I glanced at my stats today and was pleasantly surprised as my traffic has increased 1000 fold.

I started this blog in may of this year mainly as an experiment based on the experiment on Steve Pavlina’s blog the “million dollar experiment” but has since turned into a place where I hopefully provide a little entertainment and some good information about making money online such as blogging, investing and affiliate programs.  The original experiment focused on positivity as a way of reaping what you sow.  Essentially your positive thoughts and actions are what make you successful and so far it has worked.  I plan on keeping it up!

To date the following major events have come about because of my positive spin on life.  I had my job changed from salaried to hourly and was given back pay for 3 years of overtime.  Cha-ching! $13,000.00 before taxes. I won an iPod Touch after buying a page on the Million Euro Wiki.  Ding! $400. I also won a book from John Chow called “An American Hedge Fund” Bling! ~$20 retail.

This isn’t the only blog I run but it is now more popular than my other blogs. This probably has to do with the writing style I decided to adopt here. It’s quite informal, yet comfortable and easy to read.

In the future I plan to have many more contests and interesting articles. I like to say that I’m just getting warmed up. For now, I want to stress the importance of being subscribed to my full RSS feed. There is a prize you can win right now and it ends on Halloween so if you aren’t a subscriber yet, sign up today. Use the form you see in the sidebar to sign up by email and spread the word. Let’s see if we can catch John Cow and pass up his RSS horde.

Today I went to check the mail which was stuffed so much with catalogs for my wife I almost didn’t see the package that came from Vancouver.

Said package was from John Chow of course containing my signed copy of “An American Hedge Fund” by Timothy Sykes. This is the story of how $12 grand can turn into $1.65 million in the hedge fund business.

Hedge Funds are ways of playing the market with other people’s money. A hedge fund as the name implies makes bets in the stock market that “hedge” or counterbet against popular opinion in the market, typically focusing on short sales of stocks that can be turned around quickly. Essentially it’s short day trading but on a massive scale.

Jim Cramer ran a $400 million hedge fund during the 80s and 90s and made a fortune.

I’m excited to read this book and when I am done, one lucky subscriber to this blog is going to win the book. In order to win you will need to subscribe to the full rss feed and I recommend you subscribe by email. Use the form on this page in the upper right.

Here’s a photo of the book:

I just got an email from the marketing department at Text-Link-Ads and they have started a new CPC program called ShoppingAds.

ShoppingAds allows you to place a banner area on your site that is “powered by the major shopping sites”. Publishers are able to choose specific keywords for the ads that are shown, or they can simply choose to use the most popular keywords.

ShoppingAds, unlike other similar programs isn’t contextual. You can’t rely on the content of your blog or website to generate appropriate items in the ad space. Therefore it is to your benefit that you either choose specific keywords geared to your site’s content or simply rely on the most popular items which should also be the highest payout items.

You can see an example of ShoppingAds on the main page of this blog just below the header and in the main post area. Signing up for ShoppingAds also automatically ads you as an affiliate so that anyone who signs up through your ad is credited to you. It will be interesting to see how well this performs compared to other CPC programs since TLA is claiming CPC as high as $.20 on average. Check it out for yourself and sign up.

You will also notice I have 4 new ad spaces available in the sidebar.  You can get all the details about buying those spots on my Advertising page.

The 16GB iPod Touch that I won from the Million Euro Wiki contest arrived this morning by FedEx. I’m glad it came today because I had to sign for the package and lucky for me I work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The box itself is pretty small, only a little larger than the actual unit. As you can see it comes shrinkwrapped in plastic to protect the box itself.
