iPhone Whiners Juice Apple

It’s all over the news today, just one day after Apple Inc. announced their new holiday lineup of iPods and iPhones, to the disgruntled chortle of early adopters everywhere.

Customers who bought the iPhone when it first came out learned yesterday that Apple was lowering the price on the 8GB model by $200, swiftly angering early adopters who had purchased the same model for $600 just 2 months earlier.

Does this really surprise anyone?

Remember the iPod Photo? I bought one two months before they announced the iPod with video…but did I get anything in the way of store credit? Did I go cry foul because I couldn’t wait long enough for a better, stronger, we can rebuilt it version? Hell no. It’s called buyer’s remorse people and it happens. It’s illegal when you buy a car to be able to return it for any reason, so why should this be any different?

Apple, in order to please their “core customers” is allowing those early buyers a $100 store credit which in my opinion really isn’t offering much. I guess you can save it for when you buy the next big thing Apple comes out with, like the iPotty or it might be an iHelmet with an iPod like device built right into a helmet for all those extreme sports junkies.

I just really hate the idea that a customer who is completely happy with a device like the iPhone (wherein you had $600 to blow on a phone in the first place) is surprised and even angered that it eventually gets cheaper. That’s what happens with technology folks. Just look at any processor in a computer, or a video card or memory or hard drives. They all get cheaper the longer you wait because something is inevitably going to come along that is cheaper, faster, stronger, has a longer battery life, a better screen, more memory, plays more, does more…you get the idea.

So enjoy your hard whined $100 store credit and I hope next time you decide to jump on the bandwagon head first…maybe you think a little and decide you really can wait for the next big thing.
